The Outstanding Tiny Desk AI template, shot by shot
Every Outstanding Tiny Desk AI video uses the same template: the vertical viral cut of a 2023 NPR Tiny Desk closer, about 18 seconds, with the 1982 funk song "Outstanding" on top. Here's what's in it second by second, where each person shows up, and why you don't need a CapCut file.

The four shots
These stills show our AI cast in each shot; nobody in them is a real person. In your video, the people you add take these seats, and any seat you leave keeps its cast face.
0:00–0:05Band
Keys and both backing singers, lead at the mic
0:05–0:12Big laugh
Lead vocals, in close-up
0:12–0:15Sax solo
Sax, with keys peeking in
0:15–0:18Band again
The whole desk sings it out
Which seat shows up where
| Time | Shot | Who’s on screen |
|---|---|---|
| 0:00–0:05 | Band | Keys and both backing singers, lead at the mic |
| 0:05–0:12 | Big laugh | Lead vocals, in close-up |
| 0:12–0:15 | Sax solo | Sax, with keys peeking in |
| 0:15–0:18 | Band again | The whole desk sings it out |
So lead vocals get the big close-up, sax gets the solo, and keys plus the two backing singers appear in both band shots. One person or five costs the same.
Why it starts on the band shot
The viral TikTok version opens with 1.4 seconds of the lead singer in side profile. A face swap can’t hold up on a side profile, so our template starts on the band shot, where every face is turned toward the camera, and keeps the rest of the cut as it is.

Questions
Is the Outstanding Tiny Desk AI template free?
CapCut templates for the trend are free, but they only give you the cuts and the song: they don’t put a face into the performance. Try Tiny Desk AI does the AI part for $9.90 a video.
How long is the Tiny Desk template?
About 18 seconds in four shots: band (0:00–0:05), big laugh (0:05–0:12), sax solo (0:12–0:15) and band again (0:15–0:18).
Can I change the song or the cuts?
No. The template is the viral cut with the original song, because that is what people recognise. You choose who is in it, not how it is edited.
Who should go on lead vocals?
The person the video is about: the birthday person, the one leaving the job, the friend who laughs loudest, or you. Lead gets about 7 seconds of the big laugh in close-up.
Can I fill only some of the seats?
Yes. Any 1 to 5 seats, same price. Seats you don’t fill keep our AI cast, so no seat is left empty.
